Warehouse labeling

To be able to link a product to a shelf, each shelf in the warehouse must be labeled with a corresponding tag.

This label indicates (both in plain text and encoded in a barcode) the exact location of the shelf (or bin) in the warehouse.

Typically, the location includes:

  • Zone or Room
  • Floor
  • Aisle
  • Rack
  • Shelf

The number and type of fields may vary. For example, you only need the floor number if your warehouse spans multiple levels (though in that case, it might be simpler to treat each level as a separate zone). Or if youโ€™re using a mezzanine with multiple tiers.

A label would typically look something like this:

You simply create these storage locations in the WMS, print out the labels, and stick them onto EVERY storage location in your warehouse โ€” whether it's a pallet space or a shelf bin.

Well, it is what it is โ€” you canโ€™t cut words from a good story!
